Axial Fan motor

The FZY series is an external rotor axial fan motor: the fan blade mounts directly on the motor's outer rotor, which removes the belt, pulley and separate shaft of a conventional arrangement and makes the whole fan assembly compact enough to fit inside a condensing unit or an evaporator housing.

Eight frame sizes run from FZY200 to FZY550, in two, four and six pole versions, with E marking single phase and D marking three phase. Input power runs from 40 W to 650 W, speed from 900 to 2780 rpm, airflow from 450 to 8560 m3/h and maximum static pressure from 30 to 160 Pa. The naming tells you the size and the pole count: FZY250-4E is a 250 mm, four pole, single phase motor.

Voltage is 220 V 50 Hz on the single phase versions and 380 V 50 Hz on the three phase, which covers the usual condensing unit and air cooler supplies. The motors are rated for ambient from -30 C to +60 C, protection class IP44 or IP54, insulation class B or F, working mode S1 and a service life of at least 30,000 hours.

Two selection points are worth attention. First, the duty point: a fan motor is selected where the fan curve meets the system resistance, so the same motor on a different blade or housing will draw a different current - check the running current after installation rather than assuming the nameplate figure. Second, the protection class: IP54 is the right choice on an evaporator in a washdown room or on an outdoor condenser, where a splash can reach the windings.

Single phase versions are capacitor run, so a fan that fails to start is as likely to be a failed capacitor as a failed motor - check the capacitor before replacing the motor.
