Tools & Service

The tools that decide whether a joint holds and whether a system is dry. A vacuum pump removes the air and moisture that would otherwise freeze at the expansion valve and form acid with the oil; single stage pumps reach 5 Pa and cover routine service, while dual stage pumps pull deeper and hold it, which is what large systems and systems left open to atmosphere need. A brazing torch is the only accepted way to join copper on refrigerant lines, and the tip has to match the pipe diameter — a tip sized for 3/8 inch will not bring a 7/8 inch joint to temperature, and the result is a joint that looks sound and leaks under pressure. Charging hoses are deliberately small bore, so that less refrigerant is lost when the hose comes off, and they are rated far above working pressure so the same hose can be used for pressure testing.
